Our Story
Our Mission
Sligo Rotary Club is a long-established community organisation with a proud history of service, fellowship and support for the people of Sligo and the wider community. The Club received its charter on 20 February 1965, and for more than six decades its members have worked together to make a positive difference locally while being part of the wider Rotary International family.
At the heart of Sligo Rotary is the Rotary ideal of “Service Above Self.” Members come together from a wide range of backgrounds and generations, combining their time, skills and experience to support worthwhile causes, raise funds and develop projects that benefit others. The Club's activities have included community fundraising, charitable collections, youth development and educational initiatives, as well as opportunities for friendship and fellowship.

Our initiatives
A particularly important part of the Club's work is its commitment to young people. Sligo Rotary supports initiatives that encourage leadership, confidence and awareness among students, including the Rotary Youth Leadership Development Competition. The Club has also promoted opportunities for students to develop their knowledge of important issues such as the European Union, current affairs and leadership, helping young people to build skills that will serve them well in the future.
The photographs also reflect the Club's strong tradition of community involvement and fundraising. Members can be seen supporting Christmas collections for organisations including North West Hospice and St Vincent de Paul, demonstrating Rotary's practical commitment to helping those in need. Such activities bring members together while allowing the Club to make a tangible contribution to local charities and community organisations.
People of Action
Our community
Sligo Rotary is also about people and relationships. From its founding members in 1965 to successive generations of Rotarians, the Club has created lasting friendships and connections. Its history shows how the organisation has evolved over the years, while retaining the same fundamental principles of service, fellowship, leadership and community spirit.
Today, Sligo Rotary continues this tradition, welcoming people who want to get involved, meet others, contribute their skills and make a difference. Through its charitable work, youth programmes, fundraising activities and fellowship, the Club remains an active part of life in Sligo and a local expression of Rotary's international commitment to "People of Action."
